AMG® was founded back in 1967 by automotive engineers Hans-Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher. The name AMG® is composed of the names Aufrecht, Melcher and Großaspach, which Großaspach is the name of the birthplace of Aufrecht. In just a few short years, AMG® made a name for itself during the 1971 Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race.
