Release Date and Features of the New Mercedes-Benz E63 and E63 S
Following the release of its first-ever pickup truck, the Concept X-Class, Mercedes-Benz has released its most powerful E-Class sedan to date. This next generation E63 lineup delivers superior acceleration, driving dynamics and efficiency due to its 4.0L V8 biturbo engine and innovative performance technologies.
New E63 and E63 S Performance
Marking the most significant redesign between generations, the new Mercedes-Benz E63 and E63 S are fit with new mechanical systems, new exterior features and paired with the luxurious convenience the brand is known for. The V8 biturbo engine is coupled with a SPEEDSHIFT MCT nine-speed sport transmission with AMG dynamic select drive modes and the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.
AMG Dynamic Select Drive Modes:
Comfort – Well balanced drive with comfort-oriented suspension and fuel-efficient gear shift configurations. Utilizes AMG Cylinder Management and ECO Start/Stop.
Sport – High vehicle dynamics enabled by faster shift times and double-clutch downshifts.
Sport Plus – Also for increased dynamics, the mode features increased idle speeds and faster acceleration.
Individual – Driver can manually shift using the shift paddles on the steering wheel.
RACE (E63S Only) – Intended for closed race circuits. Optimal engine speed is set by on-board electronics. Reaches an acceleration from 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds.
AMG Cylinder Management System
The most powerful engine to ever be installed in an e-class is also the most efficient due to the cylinder deactivation system. AMG Cylinder Management system is an E-Class first that aims to reduce fuel consumption and emissions levels by deactivating the intake and exhaust valves for cylinders two, three, five and eight in the partial-load range. When “comfort” mode is selected on the transmission, cylinder deactivation occurs between 1,000 and 3.250 RPM.
New E-Class Design for Superior Aerodynamics and Style
New performance parts for the E63 and E63 S also require new style to both distinguish their high performance and improve it. For the new E-Class executive sedans, the hood has been replaced with an inset coupe-style hood that improves aerodynamic efficiency as does the increased size of the front end.
Larger wheels with a wider track width are now possible on the E63 and E63 S due to a .67-inch increase in the width of the front end. Also added to the front end of each is a new radiator grille with twin louvers in silver chrome and vertical black struts accented by the signature AMG lettering. Highlighting the exclusive performance of the E-Class sedans are the arrow shaped wing signets in silver chrome with three-dimensional V8 BITURBO 4MATIC+ lettering accented by 19-inch, 10-Spoke light-alloy wheels in titanium gray.
